A major milestone was achieved today as COSTAATT officially celebrated the approval and handover of its Nursing Assistant Programme, paving the way for more skilled healthcare professionals to serve our nation.

Developed through the collaborative efforts of COSTAATT, the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training (MTEST), the programme will welcome its first cohort of up to 200 students in September 2026, with a second intake scheduled for January 2027.

Speaking on behalf of Senator Professor Emeritus the Honourable Prakash Persad, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Hansen Narinesingh MP reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening education-to-employment pathways and addressing the country’s growing demand for qualified healthcare professionals through strategic investment in tertiary education and skills development.

Dr. the Honourable Lackram Bodoe, Minister of Health, described nursing assistants as the “quiet heroes” of the healthcare system, emphasizing their vital role in delivering compassionate, patient-centred care.

With more than 5,000 nurses graduated over the past 25 years, COSTAATT continues to lead in nursing and allied health education, preparing graduates with the knowledge, professionalism and compassion to meet the nation’s healthcare needs.

Together, MTEST, the Ministry of Health – Trinidad and Tobago, the Nursing Council and COSTAATT are building a stronger healthcare workforce and creating greater opportunities for the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
